Time for a bleg

No, that is not a typo - this post is a bleg, not a blog. A bleg is a weblog that is begging for something (at least that's what the Freakonomics blog states). In this case, I'm begging for a name.

Here is a picture of my new baby:

She is a 1957 Jeep/Willys CJ5. Sarah's grandparents have owned her from sometime in the 80's. Grandpa used to take her when they went hunting and fishing and they used her to get around the woods. Since his bout with cancer, she has sat idle on the side of Grandma's house, waiting to play again. When Grandma started talking about finally selling it, Sarah put a bug in her ear that I would be interested. A quick discussion with the wife and I became the proud owner of she-who-is-not-yet-named.

Now that she is mine, I need a name for her. Sarah's grandfather loved this Jeep and he and I had many conversations about it before he passed. Because he regaled me with countless stories of him and the Jeep, I was thinking about somehow making the name a reference to him in some way. His name was Paul. Hopefully, we can come up with a great name for her. Thanks for the help!

To the next post!

Mikey

How about the obvious "Paul the Hunter"?

In conversation, "Hey, nice Jeep" - "Ya Paul the Hunter is a great jeep" - "Paul the Hunter?" - "It doesn't talk back you know? However, when you are behind the wheel she does tell you how she feels!"

One problem with your name - cars are always girls (unless you are my wife and you insist on calling your car a guy's name. Weird). Cars definitely are car names - as in "Eleanor".

The name "Paula" has been in the back of my mind this whole time, I was just thinking there might be a better solution. . .

My buddy Pat in Durango had a jeep that he called "Jeepy" which I always thought was sort of charming, if a bit obvious.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a girls name. An appropriate nickname based on the description is also acceptable i.e. The Iron Maiden or The Dark Knight. Whatever name you choose, I just hope you never fall into that "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand" crowd. Please.

How about Jill Willy? Willy obviously being her last name and the type of Jeep. Jill because you can call her Jilly Willy!

I agree with Bryce on the "it's a jeep..." And if you ever buy that sticker that says, "if you can read this, roll me over" I will kick you in the nuts!

Mike,
Avoiding Paulette,
What about Olive?
It is a reference to Olive Oyl, the Popeye character that received Eugene the Jeep as a gift from Popeye. The "Jeep" was other worldly, intelligent and could go anywhere. Thus the theory was that soldiers in WWII named their vehicles after it. (Although the other theory is that the term came from "GP vehicle" or government patrol vehicle as it was sometimes referred to)
Additionally, the name Olive can also be a reference to the green original paint color that is hidden beneath that blue, and to the cammo outfits I presume were worn by Paul during the hunting trips with the Jeep.

Here's a link about Olive's pet Jeep.

Creepy - Grandpa's middle name was Eugene.

I think right now, Olive might be the leading candidate.

And never will I have "It's a Jeep thing. . ." or "If you can read this. . ." on the back of my baby. Never.

There's no room on the back for stsickers because you've got that sweet mural.

It is a sweet mural, but Mike said he was taking it off. What a loser. Olive sounds good, my middle name is Eugene also, so I like the connection.
